Drew Jackson's Powder Alert!

More Powder, Powder, Powder!

After a break in the weather on Friday, heavy snow returns this weekend into early next week.

A new storm system will drop into Oregon from the northwest on Saturday bringing heavy snow showers. While there will be some temporary breaks in the falling snow, I expect nearly continuous snowfall from Saturday morning through Monday morning – with a storm total of 20-30 inches likely!

The snow level will be no higher than 1,500 feet into early next week, and with temperatures at the ski areas in the teens to low 20s, this new snow will be about as light & fluffy as it gets in the Northwest.

Similar to the last storm, this coming storm will feature the heaviest snow in the north Oregon Cascades and the Blue Mountains in northeast Oregon. But the mountains in central and southern Oregon will get significant snow too.

High winds are a possibility again, however, so there will be heavy drifting…and lift operations will likely be affected at higher-elevation ski areas.

Enjoy!

What a perfect weekend on the mountain! 2-28-2009

For the record, the boarders on this trip were:
Keri-Lyn
Randy
Kate (Grama Katie went for moral suppport)
Nicole
Austin
Jordan
Gabe

It was a full load! Whohoo! Holy Bejeezus it was cold when we got there this morning, but that was great news! It meant the powder stayed powder and was incredible.
This trip we brought 2 first timers, Nicole and Gabe. By the time they got all of their gear and such it was already after 10am (that is when the first lesson starts) so they decided to brave Bruno and see what they could learn on their own until the next lesson at 1pm. Gabe had a rough start, but seemed to get into it after the lesson. He even took it upon himself to head out to Bruno after the lesson by himself and "do some shredding!" :) Nicole did very well her first go! Great Job Girl!
The rest of us decided to head down to Jeff Flood and ride up to the Mile. I can't even explain how beautiful it was up there, two days in a row now! Gorgeous! There was so much open terrain and powder to play in. Austin and Keri-Lyn took a ride down the outer perimeter from the mile and hit some jumps for fun! We aren't crazy, just learning them but its so much fun!
Poppy was carving all over the mile and seems to be getting more and more comfortable on the board! We are waiting to see him hit the jumps too!
Jordan is faster than all of us so she hits all the runs 2xs before we get to the bottom. She likes the outer perimeter as well and loves to try the jumps! That or she just likes to dig out, who knows!
Grama Katie held down the fort so we had a break table. She brought all the fixins to make lunch up there from the spicy crab dip and clam dip to Roast beef and swiss for sandwiches! yummy! Thanks Grama!
All in all it was a great weekend. Playing hookie on Friday was spectacular and the weather a powder on Saturday was a great follow up. There is more snow in the forecast this week, YES! We will do this all over again next weekend. See you on the mountain!
Til Then!

More Snow for us! Yes! 2-27-2009

Holy Crap Batman! Did you see how much snow we got???

Well snow fans, this was one hell of a Friday on the mountain! The members of this trip were:
Keri-Lyn
Randy
Jordan
Austin

Yes, it was a Friday - but we are snowboarders and there was flippin' stupendous amounts of snow hitting the ground this week! Looks like we got nearly 50" at Timberline over the course of a few days and it showed on the mountain! There was powder for days!
We of course battled the same kids and the not waiting for each other or better yet not wanting to ride on the lift together, but even that didn't phase the day as it was just spectacular! There was not a single cloud in the sky on the mountain today. It was beautiful! I have posted pics from the drive up and back as well as the short stint we spent in the lodge, check em out!
Today, we spent quite a bit of our time on "The Mile" boarding "Gordo's Mile" to "Mustang Sally" to "Alpine" to hit "Kruser" and take Jeff Flood Express back up. If that wasn't enough, we would take the Magic Mile lift up and come down "Coffel's Run" Hit either "Kruser" or "Paintbrush" (for jumping and carving skills) then hit "Glade" back out to "Kruser" to get to the Jeff Flood.
Jordan and Austin had a great time on "Paintbrush" with all of the jumps they have carved out in there. At one point Jordan and Austin both were digging out of deep powder! Ah yes, and they couldn't be alone, Randy thought it would be great to cut through the trees and found himself stuck about 30 ft in in DEEP snow too! hahaha It was so funny I spent my time laughing and forgot to film it! :) (Next time!)
If you want to check out the interactive map of the runs, feel free to click here, http://timberlinelodge.micromaps.com
I think I'd like to try "Otto Lang" and scoot across to "Mustang Sally" then "Alpine" tomorrow and see how that rides!
So everyone is in bed already and have been since 7:30 - wow! what a way to get the kids in bed early! We are headed back out in the am so we will see you on the slopes!
